Aftercare Advice

This section explains how to properly educate clients on immediate post-brow lamination aftercare, including the setting period, short-term care essentials, and troubleshooting tips. Aftercare is critical for maintaining beautiful results, preventing damage, and ensuring happy, loyal clients.

The Setting Phase: First 24-48 Hours

Right after lamination, brow hairs are soft, flexible, and still setting into their new shape, think of it like a “curing time” after a chemical treatment. This window is essential for long-lasting results.

What Happens If Brows Get Wet Too Soon?

During the first 24-48 hours, the hair’s chemical bonds are still stabilising. Moisture can interrupt this phase, causing:

  • Loss of shape - hairs may shift, ruining the uniform look
  • Curling or frizzing - especially in coarse or unruly brows
  • Dryness or brittleness - water can interfere with the nourishing phase
  • Patchiness - some areas may set unevenly if they get wet too early

If It Happens: How to Rescue the Brows
If a client accidentally gets their brows wet or exposed to steam within 48 hours:

  • Stay calm, results might still be salvageable.
  • If still damp, gently brush brows back into place with a clean spoolie.
  • Let them air dry naturally.
  • Once 24 hours have passed, begin applying nourishing oil daily to rehydrate and condition the hairs.

⚠️Do NOT re-laminate or apply more chemicals - brows need a full rest period (6-8 weeks) before any retreatment.

Why Moisture Is a Risk

During the setting phase, water, steam, or sweat can:

  • Interrupt the chemical setting process
  • Weaken the shape, causing misdirection or frizz
  • Dehydrate the hair, making it prone to snapping

Explaining the “why” to clients helps boost compliance - they’re more likely to follow instructions when they understand the risks.

If a Client Slips Up
If a client contacts you saying they got their brows wet too early:

  • Recommend gently brushing them into place while damp
  • Suggest starting light oil application after the 24-hour mark
  • Offer a mini follow-up treatment (e.g. tint, mask, reshape) at 2-3 weeks if needed

Aftercare vs. Ongoing Maintenance
Help clients understand the difference:

  • Aftercare (Module 4): Short-term healing and protection right after lamination
  • Maintenance (Module 3): Long-term habits that support brow health between appointments

Client Communication & Satisfaction
Before your client leaves:

  • Ask: “Are you happy with the shape and finish today?”
  • Make final adjustments if needed (brushing, trimming, filling).
  • Give written or digital aftercare instructions to take home.
  • Encourage questions - this builds trust and confidence in your service.

Reinforce With Aftercare Cards
Give clients:

  • A printed or digital aftercare card
  • A short recap via email or text
  • Optional: A video demo link showing brushing and oil application

Many booking systems (like Fresha, Ovatu, or Timely) allow automated aftercare messages for a seamless experience.

Retail Integration

This is a great chance to increase compliance and boost revenue:

  • Offer a mini serum or spoolie kit as a retail add-on
  • Or, build it into your lamination price and give clients one as part of the service

This adds value, supports results, and gives your service a premium edge.

Key Takeaway

While Module 3 focuses on long-term brow health, Module 4 lays the foundation for success through proper aftercare education. The first 48 hours are non-negotiable - and when clients are well-informed, everything that follows becomes easier.

Clear aftercare = Better results = Happy, returning clients.
